Be Brave
Be Brave.
I have seen so many posts these last few weeks asking us to teach our children to be brave. To teach our kids to speak up for others and for us, as parents, to take 5 minutes to remind them to be empathetic to other kids and their needs. It got me thinking, that as parents how many of us are BRAVE and are living this example in our own daily lives?
If we embodied these same principles every day as adults, would we need to make a special point of these topics right before school? Do we choose our own happiness? Do we put too much worth into objects and labels? Rather than teaching our kids to be brave, shouldn’t we be BRAVE too and honor that we teach them at home what they embody at school?
My personal hope for this school year is my children are brave enough to use their voices and vocalize what they need. I pray they are brave enough to ask for help rather than get frustrated because they are confused. I pray that they don’t feel like they must do anything on their own. I pray that they feel safe with their friends and in turn, their friends feel safe with them. I pray that they see me happy and choosing healthy choices, so they realize that the only thing that matters is their happiness. The grades, the sports, the shiny objects, and the labels, are just things that don’t matter over time. Their hearts are the only thing that matters.
We as adults must embody that honesty, that love of self, and that happiness before we can expect our kids to. So yes, I want my kids to be BRAVE, but I need to be willing to be BRAVE too.
